In celebration of National Nursing Week (May 11–15) and this year’s theme, The Power of Nurses to Transform Health, the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care (CCGHC), the Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment (CANE), and the Ontario Nurses’ for the Environment (ONE) are proud to present a special webinar series highlighting nursing leadership in planetary health and sustainability.

Join CCGHC, CANE and ONE for a conversation on how nurses are advancing planetary health across diverse domains of practice. From advocacy and education to clinical care and global initiatives, nurses are playing a critical role in addressing the health impacts of climate change.
This webinar will feature perspectives from across the nursing spectrum, including advocacy efforts, student-led initiatives, long-term care, and international work, highlighting how planetary health is being integrated into practice at multiple levels. Each speaker will share real-world examples of impact, innovation, and leadership in their respective areas.
Whether you’re a student, clinician, or leader, this session will offer insight and inspiration on how nurses can contribute to a more sustainable and climate-resilient health system.

Émilie Tremblay, CANE President
Farah Elgaweesh
Farah Elgaweesh is a third-year honours nursing student at the University of Alberta, passionate about sustainable development goals and how they intersect to affect the social determinants of health for our society. As the co-president of the Health Sciences Students’ Association, the College of Health Sciences students’ representative association, and the co-president of the Sustainable Development Goals Students’ Alliance, she merges both of these worlds in her work with the Sustainability Council and the UN Association of Canada on various projects that link the SDGs to health.
Jennifer Baumbusch
Jennifer Baumbusch, RN, PhD, FAAN, FCAN is a Professor at the University of British Columbia’s School of Nursing and former CIHR Chair in Sex and Gender Science (2020 – 2024). Her expertise is in family caregiving, qualitative research, and knowledge translation. Jennifer is an Associate Editor with the International Journal of Older People Nursing and Associate Editor: Qualitative Research with The Gerontologist. She leads a research program examining health equity in the context of climate change, with a focus on older adults, people with lifelong disabilities, and family caregivers
Heather Baid
Heather Baid RN PhD joined the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria in 2026 as an Associate Teaching Professor after working for many years working in England. Her professional interests include acute and critical care, human factors, simulation, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’ relevance to global health and healthcare delivery. Heather has partnered in education, research, quality improvement, and events focused on environmentally sustainable and resilient clinical practice that is financially affordable and socially responsible, while maintaining safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.

Émilie has been a dedicated CANE member for the past five years. She holds the position of President and serves on the Policy Development Committee. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2018, pursued a Master’s degree in 2020, and completed her PhD at the University of Ottawa in 2026. Émilie is a nursing professor and her research focuses on the impacts of the climate crisis on the mental health of young Canadians. Prior to her academic career, Émilie specialized in cardiac care in hospitals and worked in women’s health care in community settings. Her interests include critical theory, ecofeminism, planetary health, environmental justice, and social justice.
