Myles Sergeant, MD is a family physician who has worked with vulnerable populations, including people experiencing homelessness and/or addictions, and the elderly, over the past 25 years. Recognizing the intersection between environmental issues and health, he is dedicated to addressing climate change issues and has co- founded Partnerships for Environmental Action by Clinicians and Communities for Health care facilities (www.peachhealthontario.com), the charity Trees for Hamilton in 2012 (www.treesforhamilton.ca), and the not-for-profit Shelter Health Network in 2005 (www.shelterhealthnetwork.ca). He is now the executive director of the Canadian Coalition for Green Healthcare.
Owen Dan Luo, MDCM is a first-year Internal Medicine resident at McGill University who is passionate about climate action and sustainable healthcare. While taking part in patient care in hospitals and clinics around Montreal, Owen witnessed the growing health impacts of climate change on Canadians and healthcare’s significant carbon footprint. This motivated him to design planetary health medical education competencies and the Climate Wise slides to prepare Canadian physicians to practice in a climate crisis as a past Co-Chair of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students Health and Environment Adaptive Response Taskforce (CFMS HEART). Owen has built grassroots movements to decarbonize healthcare as the founder and previous Co-Director of Project Green Healthcare/Projet Vert la Santé, the first-of-its-kind national community of practice of medical students leading sustainability quality improvement projects in healthcare systems across Canada. He also shares his expertise in planetary health medical education and healthcare sustainability on numerous interdisciplinary national advisory boards.
