Background

Karlene is an Edmonton-based Registered Nurse with experience in cardiac intensive care, emergency, and internal medicine.

Education

After completing a Bachelor of Technology degree from NAIT in 2024, her nursing practice expanded into health innovation.

Career

She currently works with the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital’s Research & Innovation team, supporting industry partners across Canada to co-develop and implement innovative health technologies in clinical settings. Karlene represents nursing perspectives nationally through roles with ISO standards, Choosing Wisely Canada, and Medtech Canada. She also founded Conserve Medical Technologies, which is developing technology to improve outcomes for hospitalized patients receiving oxygen therapy.

Interests

Karlene integrates a planetary health mindset into her practice, having received training from CASCADES Canada and the Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment.
